Xdinary Heroes introduce new chapter with ‘IMPULSE’

Xdinary Heroes returned on 12 October with their ninth mini album, IMPULSE, opening what the members describe as a new chapter for the band.

The seven-track release is led by “Obsessed with Youth”, a song about yearning for youth, obsession and personal growth. The group say the album explores seven different desires drawn from the countless feelings people experience.

The JYP Entertainment band—Jungsu, Gaon, O.de, Jun Han and Jooyeon—continue to combine forceful live-band sounds with melodic hooks designed to be easy for listeners to sing along with.

One notable album credit comes from Bring Me the Horizon vocalist Oliver Sykes, who is credited on “Give Up The Ghost.” Jooyeon said he enjoyed the song’s vocal character before learning about Sykes’ involvement.

Gaon also highlighted “Breathe in, Breathe out,” an acoustic-based track that takes a less familiar sonic route for Xdinary Heroes. He said the arrangement was shaped around the image of a lone monologue under a spotlight.

Looking ahead, the members said they hope their music can offer listeners around the world moments of happiness and refreshment, while allowing the band to reach larger stages with increasingly ambitious performances.
